Whether you are interviewing for a place in a business school or for a career job once you have your business degree, interview skills are going to be essential for you. There are certain “do’s” and “don’ts” that must be adhered to in formal interviews, and no matter how brilliant you are in business or marketing, if you don’t know these skills, the best jobs will pass you by.
- Always greet the interviewer by title and last name. Develop a method for remembering names, and if you are given a tour of the company, greet each person, regardless of job, respectfully by name.
- Shake hands firmly, but don’t try to break fingers. A limp handshake is always known to be a no-no, but going too firm is a clear sign of insecurity.
- Don’t fidget. Practice your posture and the way you will sit. Be sure that your body language conveys interest, relaxation, and respect. Not fear.
