Career fairs are great places to distrubute your resume, set up interviews, and network. Many qualified applicants have found their first jobs through these events. Businesses and corporations that set up booths at these fairs have genuine needs for employees and want to take a sample of the potential employees currently in those fields. But when you are offered a job through one of these career-fair events or after subsequent interviews, how do you know if it is right for you?
To evaluate a job offer, consider the following questions:
- Does the job fulfill the requirements you initially determined when beginning your job search?
- Will the position increase your satisfaction quotient overall?
- Will the position increase your salary from previous jobs?
The answer to each of these questions should be yes. If not, take a closer look at a few more offers. It will be a mistake in the long run to settle for the first job that comes along, or for something that has obvious flaws from the beginning. There are so many surprises that can hit you in a job—difficult coworkers, uncooperative management, a location that is inconvenient, and more—that there is no need to take a job that has obvious flaws from the beginning. Take your time and find the position where your unique skills are appreciated both financially and verbally.
