Some of the best business principles are some of the oldest. People have been enjoying successful businesses throughout history, and the concepts they have used haven’t always been sophisticated. Even before the internet, even before direct marketing, and even before television’s advertising opportunities, businesses knew that the principle of win-win was always effective.
The win-win principle is simply a matter of two or more different businesses banding together for mutual benefit. When they offer each other’s products to customers, the benefit works both ways and both companies profit. Here are some win-win strategies that companies have traditionally used:
- Restaurant patrons are offered discounts at a nearby store. The coupon could come with the bill. Meanwhile, store retailers offer customers drinks coupons for the local restaurant.
- A business consultant asks clients to send out a letter praising his services. He gives the client a free session for doing so, and the letter offers a free initial session to new clients.
- Businesses in the entertainment field know that people seek variety in their entertainment options, so a movie theater and a putt-putt golf center could offer coupons encouraging patrons to split their entertainment dollars between the two.
