17 AprRemote Farming is an Unusual, But Attractive Career and Business Idea

career and business 300x228 Remote Farming is an Unusual, But Attractive Career and Business IdeaThose looking to start an unusual but highly lucrative, cutting-edge business, may want to consider remote farming. With this innovative concept, consumers may remotely control a parcel of land and plant an organic garden of their own through the web. Actual farmers follow the consumer specifications to the letter, then deliver the produce harvested right to the customer’s door.

These days, with health and environmental awareness so much an integral part of the fabric of society, and with technology playing a bigger and bigger part in the consumer picture, the idea of remote farming is something whose time has truly come. Not everyone has the time or wherewithal to actually farm a plot, but just as consumers now enjoy playing video games that simulate real sports, they are now finding more and more that the interaction they have with the land through the remote farming concept is enough to satisfy, educate, and actually nourish them. This unusual business idea is only for the truly adventurous, but you know what they say—nothing ventured, nothing gained.

31 MarFamily, Career, and Business Can All Work Together If Your Make the Effort

career and business 300x213 Family, Career, and Business Can All Work Together If Your Make the EffortWhether you own your own business or work for a major corporation, your career and business concerns make huge demands on your time. This can often take you away from your family and friends and leave you feeling isolated and alone. If this is the case with your career, take a moment to reassess the situation and make a significant change.

Many business men and women feel that putting careers first is a temporary measure that simply must be done until that pinnacle of success is reached. Then, they imagine, things will change, schedules will open up, time for family will somehow magically appear. But these individuals are fooling themselves. What they are doing is creating a habit of constant work. Habits like these stick with you for a lifetime and they are hard to break. Time goes by quickly and, for many business persons, the chance to see your kids grow up and bond with your spouse can pass, never to be regained.

So take some time away from business and spend it with your family. When you see what a balanced life it makes, you will be glad you did. Here are some tips for managing to fit that personal time into your busy schedule:

  • Write family events into your day planner and plan around them as if they were business meetings
  • Make little connections throughout the day—call your wife at work just to say hello or send your child an email to wish him well on his soccer game.
  • Don’t forget to take vacations. They are part of your benefits package, so budget for something special and really get away.
  • Don’t take your computer or pda on family vacations. Make it a real escape.
  • Take a class in something that interests you (outside of work). It can give you something new and interesting to talk about with those closest to you.

29 DecGetting Ahead in Both Career and Business Efforts

career and business 300x220 Getting Ahead in Both Career and Business EffortsIf you are concerned about advancing yourself in the world of business, try not to become overwhelmed! There is a lot to know about how to get a raise, get promoted, or move to a new level of work. It is, of course, every business person’s goal to move up that corporate ladder, but how is it really done? Here are a few tips to get you started:

  • Share your goals with your boss. Your boss should know that you desire to move up. Don’t assume it! Some people are very content at a certain level and don’t seek to impress, so be sure the boss knows you are upwardly mobile and willing to do what it takes.
  • Offer help. Find out what types of help the company needs and offer to provide it. Make yourself indispensable!
  • Be on a board. Advisory boards help you to establish yourself as a dedicated worker and knowledgeable professional.
  • Engage a mentor to help you learn more specific ways of moving up in your profession. Every career has its own tricks for getting ahead, so find someone who knows your work well and can advise you accordingly.

06 NovCareer and Business Tips

career and business tips Career and Business TipsThe key to success in business, no matter what  your career, is always communication. Effectively utilizing all the tools at your disposal for excellent communication will ensure that managers and co-workers enjoy working with you and find the experience productive and satisfying. Here are three tips to improve your communication skills in any business or social setting:

  1. Surround yourself with people you do not already know. That’s right! Many people enjoy fitting into environments where there are no unknowns, but the act of always putting yourself into the unknown—and the slightly scary—world of new people will enable you to make new contacts quickly and hone your business social skills to improve your career.
  2. Individually introduce yourself to everyone in a group. Shake the hand of each person in a group and give them the individual attention they deserve. As often as you can, find something to say to each person, whether it be a comment on their physical presentation (love your handbag!), a reference to their name (that’s my niece’s name!), or a comment on their career or professional business (I hear you published a book on the latest research, tell me about it!).
  3. Always introduce yourself by stating your first and last name clearly, along with your company title, if in a business environment. People hate to be embarrassed, and there is nothing more embarrassing than forgetting someone’s name or their rank in the company. Help prevent this by giving others every opportunity to know who you are, so that they may freely approach you again.

Communication is so important in any career, and business success depends so much on networking and meeting new people, that little things like these can mean a lot while you are climbing that ladder to success!
