Consulting is the business of providing advice to firms in trouble, on the move, or trying to do what they do better, faster, and more cheaply. This is a very fast growing field today, and worth a look if you are aspiring to a business career that is interesting, has variety, and give you a sense of doing good for others.
To get a career in business consulting, one must be aware that while you are in school, consulting firms are already recruiting. Their most active months are in the fall and winter, so don’t delay in seeking a job during that final year of schooling. Don’t be shy! Be proactive. Find firms that you want to work for and contact them personally. Find out their deadlines for applications and meet them. Be aware that such firms will ask for a GPA, transcript, standardized test scores, and writing samples, so prepare each of these materials for your applications. It’s hard work, but in the end, getting started early will pay off by getting you into that business consulting career of your choice.
