Being your own financial manager is a great joy for certain people, but for most it can be the least attractive part about your work. When it comes to managing finances, you have a lot to take into account. For instance, there are:

- valuing the business
- accounts receivable
- making your business audit-proof
- Using quicken or other software
- Preparing taxes
If you aren’t great at crunching the numbers, the best solution is to find someone who is. Get a great accountant or financial manager and put these items in his or her hands. With luck, this effort will get your business flowing nicely. But if you are a small start-up or have a work-from home business with little capital, you may have to do your own finances. In that case, all the experts say: educate yourself! Take classes in appropriate software, read books, and attend seminars. Nothing is more essential to your business than its finances, so—like it or not—that is something every business owner needs to take very seriously.
