Don’t wait until you get out of business school to start thinking about the first job that will help you start your career. There are many ways to get busy networking while you are still in school. Some of the contacts you make there will be more valuable than any others you will make. Here are three tips to get you started:
- Build relationships with your classmates. Your classmates are not just a random pool of people. They were selected to attend your school because they, like you, have potential. Tap that potential by discussing business ideas with them and forming lasting relationships that could, someday, lead to a job offer.
- Join groups and participate in activities. Try to get involved in a wide variety of clubs and committees. These are valuable opportunities for networking that could result in life-long contacts. Those who join these groups tend, like you, to be highly motivated, so they are excellent contacts to make.
- Start a club or organization of your own. If you are not interested in the networking opportunities offered by your school, start one that will fascinate you and, hopefully, others. It could be a charitable cause, a book club, a study group, or anything.
