- Always remind potential donors that what they are doing will change people’s lives, and describe how.
- Do not overwhelm your potential donor with extensive calling or writing. Take a subtle approach that focuses on the recipient of the benefits.
- Know the priorities of any institution that you approach for funding. These are usually publicly posted.
- Go to www.fdncenter.org. There, you can download any foundation’s 990-PF form. This IRS form will tell you who they have given to in the past, thus helping you know if they are a likely donor or not.
There is so much background work that must be done to properly fundraise. Do that homework, know your donors, approach them respectfully, and you will see those dollars come rolling in!
