- Evaluate the job satisfaction you currently enjoy. When going about your daily activities, keep a diary of what themes recur in the work, what uncomfortable or enjoyable situations recur, and how you feel about your work on a day to day basis. It can be helpful even to rate your workdays on a scale of one to five. Analyzing these notes later will give you a great idea of what aspects of this career you want to keep and what aspects you don’t.
- Next, try finding volunteer opportunities that enable you to get involved in the career you find interesting. After some time in the field you may be convinced that this is the job for you, or you may come crashing back to earth and realize it isn’t all it’s cracked up to be.
- In your current job, look for ways to develop new skills that can lead you into other fields or departments. This is a way to get free training for a career switch.
