If you are interested in excelling in a business career, you may be asking yourself which business degree you should pursue. There are banking, finance, management, marketing, and so many more fields to pursue, that it can be hard to decide. You’ll want to do two things: discover what you are really interested in and discover which careers present the most opportunity right now.
Your personal interests are very important. If you are great with numbers, then follow that lead into economics. If you are great with people, then follow your skill into management. But don’t forget that just because you like a career that doesn’t mean the opportunities are out there. You may be a great marketing manager, but with the economy the way it is, there may be no jobs in that field. So it simply makes sense to follow the following steps:
- Analyze what careers are interesting to you and why. Make a list of 10.
- Read newspapers, magazines, journals, and websites to determine which careers are “hot” and growing right now. List those.
- Try to find an overlap between these two lists.
If you can find a career that is well-paid, enjoyable, and has a lot of opportunities at the right time in your career, you are on your way to a can’t-lose recipe for success.
