28 FebGood Karma List Machine By Frank Kern

Frank Kern Good Karma List Machine list building toolToday I saw that Frank Kern seems to be helping market or develop a list building tool called Good Karma List Machine.  Not sure whether this is a product launch or not there will be many more list building tools coming out shortly.

Building niche lists of prospects is an online marketing 101 tactic, but like any area of business there are always ways to improve effectiveness and efficiency in what you are doing.  Our team has built dozens of email lists of clients and potential clients within our work consisting of over 200,000 professionals.

Based on our experience here are our top 6 tips on listing building that you can put to use right now without spending any money:

  1. Don’t use double opt-in confirmations, they will kill the growth of your email list
  2. Always include  unsubscribe button or you will get manual unsubscribe requests that waste your time and result in more spam button hits
  3. Email your list every 1.5-4 weeks, any more and you will annoy most types of potential clients and any less you will be forgotten about
  4. Deliver something of value in at least 60% of your emails to keep professionals on your list and addicted to your brand
  5. A great way to introduce some products to your list is to make up a list of top 15 resources within a niche and have 3-5 of those be commercial products that are for sale, while the rest are free resources
  6. In some markets 5 opt-ins a day of very qualified potential clients is great, in others 50/day can be disappointing. Consider the traffic quality before judging the quality too much, test conversion rates.

26 FebGreat Career Paths in Business are Built Around Customer Loyalty

career paths in business 300x223 Great Career Paths in Business are Built Around Customer LoyaltyIf you want your career to follow the chosen path, you want it to climb. You’ll be making more money, year after year, if you don’t have to reinvent the wheel with each customer. That means creating customer loyalty so that you can count on the same people coming back time and time again for your products or services. The best way to achieve this loyalty is to work on long-term relationships rather than short-term sales. Your objective is to have the client see you as a trusted friend, and in order to do that, you need to keep your product at a high quality and always manage to add value. You don’t want to become boring or outdated with your offerings, so continually surprise clients with new and different offers, a variety of styles, and increased customer service.

To measure and assess your customer loyalty program, use these factors:

  • For the first two years you should see your loyalty program growing steadily.
  • Once established, your programs should generate inquiries at 4 to 5 percent a month.

If you see this type of progress, then you know you are doing it right. Remember: establishing customer loyalty may seem like a lot of work at first, but the payoff is your business’ longevity.

26 FebCareer Options in Business Depend on Excellent Sales Skills

career options in business 300x198 Career Options in Business Depend on Excellent Sales SkillsIf you want to be a successful business man or woman, it never helps to be a top-notch salesperson. Even if your work has nothing to do with sales, there is always the need to sell yourself to a potential employer, sell your skills and achievements in order to get a raise, and of course sell the services of your company in order to increase the client pool. Here are 3 selling tips than can serve anyone in business:

  1. Even after your prospects says “no,” continue the conversation. Sometimes you will discover that “no” actually means “not right now.”
  2. Keep up correspondence with contacts. Even if they have never bought anything from you, you see their interest in your product and when they finally decided to buy, it will be from you—the person they have known the longest.
  3. Send thank you notes after cold calls. Even if the outcome was not a good one, it is polite to thank someone for giving you their time, and so few business people pay attention to basic social skills like these– it will make you stand out.

26 FebDevelop Your Career on Business Principles

career on business Develop Your Career on Business PrinciplesSome of the best business principles are some of the oldest. People have been enjoying successful businesses throughout history, and the concepts they have used haven’t always been sophisticated. Even before the internet, even before direct marketing, and even before television’s advertising opportunities, businesses knew that the principle of win-win was always effective.

The win-win principle is simply a matter of two or more different businesses banding together for mutual benefit. When they offer each other’s products to customers, the benefit works both ways and both companies profit. Here are some win-win strategies that companies have traditionally used:

  • Restaurant patrons are offered discounts at a nearby store. The coupon could come with the bill. Meanwhile, store retailers offer customers drinks coupons for the local restaurant.
  • A business consultant asks clients to send out a letter praising his services. He gives the client a free session for doing so, and the letter offers a free initial session to new clients.
  • Businesses in the entertainment field know that people seek variety in their entertainment options, so a movie theater and a putt-putt golf center could offer coupons encouraging patrons to split their entertainment dollars between the two.

26 FebA Career of Business Success Depends on 3 Communication Strategies

career of business 238x300 A Career of Business Success Depends on 3 Communication StrategiesSo you want to be successful in business? Then you must know that you have chosen a challenging but very rewarding career. One of the most important aspects of business is communication. Your communication skills will make or break your career. They will help you get a job, get a good salary, gain clients, and smooth over rough patches. Your communication skills could get you out of a bad situation or get you into a great one, so be sure to read up on everything there is to know about business communications and practice, practice, practice.

To get you on your way, here are 3 important strategies that will help tremendously when it comes to overcoming stress and keeping a cool head in a business transaction situation:

  1. Always select powerful adverbs and adjectives to present material. Decide upon these power words ahead of time and sneak them into your presentation. Don’t just try to make them up on the fly.
  2. Have intimate knowledge of your audience. What are their likes and dislikes? What language excites them?
  3. Create a great opening hook. Always make sure the audience is drawn into your presentation from the very beginning. It can be good to start with a joke, an interesting mental picture, or a dramatic gesture.

26 FebAll Career Fields in Business Depend on These 3 Communication Principles

career fields in business 300x286 All Career Fields in Business Depend on These 3 Communication PrinciplesNo matter whether you are an architect, an accountant, a venture capitalist, or a legal secretary, if you are in business, you know that communication is always key. It seems simple—be honest, offer a great product, and have great customer relations, right? But in the end communication always seems to become more complicated than that. That’s because there are so many ways to present facts and information. Just being honest doesn’t give you much guidance: there are, in fact, many ways to present your information honestly. Some work to your best advantage, others don’t. Let’s take a look at 3 communication must-do’s for any business man or woman.

  1. Always optimize the information. Facts should emphasize your product’s unique qualities and outstanding reviews. There may also be some bad reviews and some less-than-optimal aspects of the product. It isn’t dishonest to ignore those facts in favor or the “optimized” ones.
  2. Practice your phrasing. Selecting the right words to use to present a product is essential. Though it may be a wonderful product, if you use any words with negative connotations or display any insecurity about the product, clients could be turned away. So select your phrasing with care.
  3. Use an informal tone to present. In today’s business world, it is all about relating to others. Communication is key, and that means making others feel at home. Make sure your tone is friendly, accessible, and not too formal.

26 FebAny Career Counseling Business Should Offer this 3-Step Advice

career counseling business Any Career Counseling Business Should Offer this 3 Step AdviceWhether you are a career counselor or are searching for a career counselor to help you improve your performance, you should always keep in mind that beating established competitors is one of the most important challenges in business. Any career counselor should be comfortable taking a client through the process of besting competitors whose name brands are known.

Many customers have developed brand loyalty to companies that have served them well in the past—and that is as it should be—but when you have a competitive business, you must know how to show them that you out to be their new brand, and that you offer much more. Career counselors should tell clients to follow this process:

  1. First, use a presentation opportunity to associate your product with the competitions. Group yourself with them and show how well they work together.
  2. Next, suggest a business problem that your product can solve, making sure to emphasize an exclusive feature that the competition doesn’t provide.
  3. Be sure to make comments detailing how much you respect the competitor’s product, meanwhile making it clear that your product is on that same level but offers additional features.

26 FebAny Career Coaching Business Should Offer Clients These 5 Exhibit Tips

career coaching business 300x233 Any Career Coaching Business Should Offer Clients These 5 Exhibit TipsWhen you are a career coach, you will encounter many different types of clients. There will be the corporate ladder climbers, the software executives, and the small business owners. All of these individuals may, at some point, have to deal with direct marketing issues, so you should be able to advise them accordingly. Direct marketing often involves trade shows and similar gatherings that require professional presentations an exhibits. Offer them the following tips for a great, show-stopping exhibit:

  1. The booth itself should complement the marketing message and reflect the company’s or industry’s nature.
  2. The booth should be constructed with flow of traffic in mind, always directing clients to the company’s advantage
  3. Utilize color well to attract clients to high-ticket items
  4. Use graphics well, by telling a story, upholding a theme, or explaining a process.
  5. Remember that consistency is key: use logos and repeat graphic images from one trade show to the next.

26 FebA Business Career Often Depends on Surviving Trade Shows—7 Tips

bussiness career 300x225 A Business Career Often Depends on Surviving Trade Shows—7 TipsIf your business is in the craft field, the home remodeling or redecorating field, the book market, the health food market, or many other markets, you will often find yourself at trade shows. These shows can be fun, but also tiring. Business owners often get so tired of doing these shows that they dread them. But with a little experience under your belt, surviving trade shows isn’t so difficult. It’s just a matter of knowing some simple trade show tips:

  1. Think of working the show as a performance
  2. Get your energy high first thing in the morning so you don’t miss those 8 am to 10 am customers
  3. Drink plenty of water throughout the day
  4. Take short breaks every few hours and get some fresh air
  5. Always work with a team—never alone
  6. Eat light, high energy meals, like an athlete
  7. Sleep at night. Save the partying until it’s all over

With these hints in mind, you an survive and thrive at trade shows. Because so many businesses depend upon them, it is essential to create a “trade show strategy” where your whole team understands what is necessary to get the most out of the experience. That means hard work, but it also means taking breaks and eating right.

26 FebMany Business Careers Depend on 800 Numbers—3 Factors to Test

businesses careers 300x268 Many Business Careers Depend on 800 Numbers—3 Factors to TestHaving a toll free 800 number for your business is essential to many enterprises. Unfortunately, many entrepreneurs don’t test their 800 numbers to see just how effective they are. Like with any marketing technique, 800 numbers must be tested and analyzed for efficiency. Here’s how: use a split run to find out if the number is actually paying for its own cost. Split it into these parts:

  • Toll free number usage
  • Buyer-paid regular number usage
  • Unlisted phone number usage

You will determine the total money gained based on each of these separate types of calls, then compare that to the cost of the toll-free number. Using this method you can determine if your toll free number is actually effective, costwise.

Of course, there are other reasons to utilize toll-free numbers too. They may provide so much customer goodwill that it would be a mistake to cancel them even if they don’t generate funds. These factors must all be considered when setting up your business communications systems.

26 Feb3 Tips for Creating Brand Names in Your Business Technology Career

business technology career 224x300 3 Tips for Creating Brand Names in Your Business Technology CareerWhen you are in the technology business, you speak a language not known by many. Geek speak is the language of computers, technology, hardware, software, and web interfaces. Though it makes perfect sense to you, the average client doesn’t understand it. This is why it is important to keep technical jargon out of any brand names you create. The key is always to ensure that no matter how complex the product really is, the brand name:

  • Captures attention
  • Is easily pronounceable
  • Has no negative connotations

Remember the old adage “KISS” or “Keep it simple, stupid?” That is especially true when it comes to brand names. Looking at just one success story—what could be more simple than “Apple?” A is for Apple is a common phrase to every school child, apples are delicious and a universally known fruit, and apples are uncomplicated. They are brightly colored and tempting. All of the connotations of an apple are attractive.

Of course, the techies who run Apple are highly intelligent geeks who could have named the company something far more accurate but utterly unintelligible to the average customer. They knew better. So in developing your business technology career, take a tip from Apple, and keep it simple.

26 FebAny Business Teacher Career Depends on Product and Risk

business teacher career3 300x240 Any Business Teacher Career Depends on Product and RiskYour career as a teacher these days depends on how well you are able to help your students thrive. Nothing else is a better litmus test than the actual success of your students. If they manage to get great corporate jobs, then that means success for you. If they start their own businesses and succeed, so much the better. You can take pride in their accomplishments. In order to succeed today, you must ensure that your students leave business school understanding the difference between product and risk.

Many students get so interested in developing their products that they forget to link every aspect of the product to the purchase potential of the customer. It must fall within the right price range and it must be something that people desperately want. If they don’t want the item, then it is only a risk. Risk is necessary in business, but it is better if marketers do their research first so that the products they develop are based on sound research into what people want to buy.

26 FebEvery Business Related Career Depends on Three Marketing Principles

business related career 300x299 Every Business Related Career Depends on Three Marketing PrinciplesIf you are going into business for yourself, you should know the basics of marketing. Marketing isn’t something you can make up as you go along. Many people make the mistake of assuming that marketing is easy, that it is just a matter of putting advertisements in local newspapers and letting the customers roll in. Not so! There are three important principles that will help you get your business off to a great start.

  • First of all, you should know about the cluster principle. This is the idea that people of similar types tend to group together in the same physical locations. It is true of businesses as well. So if you are after a certain type of client, find out where they live, work, and play.
  • The long-term ad principle is another important one. It is important to spend your advertising dollars on ads that stay in customers’ lives as long as possible. A newspaper is obsolete the next day, but an advertisement in the yellow pages lasts all year long.
  • Finally, the loyalty principle is essential to understand. Customers don’t like to shop around all the time. They like to find a brand they trust and stick with it. If you build customer loyalty, your brand alone will be all the advertisement you need.

  • Offer excellent customer service
  • Anticipate what they’ll want to buy
  • Know why buyers purchase what they do
  • Understand the art of the limited time offer
  • Always offer follow-up service with clients and customers

With these guidelines, your students cannot go wrong when it comes to marketing. These are some of the oldest marketing strategies known, but they are classics for a reason: they work! Customer service can not be emphasized enough, no matter what the business. Many companies these days shuttle calls to automated services and don’t offer personalized service. It is easy to offer better customer service than these folks by simply picking up the phone. Little things like that make a big difference when an entrepreneur is trying to make it in business, so be sure that your students leave college with a full understanding of basic marketing principles.

26 FebYour Business Owner Career Depends on Staying Out of Debt

business owner career 214x300 Your Business Owner Career Depends on Staying Out of DebtIf you are a business owner, staying out of debt, or getting out of debt if you are in it, is paramount. Nothing is more important than getting your books in the black every year! If you do have debt, the best way to get out is to first be sure you know your debt status in all regards. Make a list of your debt obligations:

  • Complete balance
  • The interest rate(s)
  • Your monthly payments
  • Any balloon payments
  • All debt covenants

Be sure that the debts you write down include any personal debts you may have to friends or family. Warning: you may not like the numbers you see! However, you have got to face the full effect of the debts you have acquired. Don’t let the facts get you down, after all, this is a recession and many businesses—make that most businesses—have been forced to go into debt just to stay afloat. It was the right thing to do, because eventually the economy will improve and you will be glad you stuck with your business.

Staying on top of those debts and letting creditors know that you are paying what you can will help a great deal with your credibility as a business owner and establish good faith for the future.
